Black Jack's Shelter

Black Jack's Shelter is a basic trail walker shelter on the Heysen Trail, maintained by Friends of the Heysen Trail volunteers and reserved for Heysen Trail walkers and Mawson Trail cyclists. It’s intended for walk-in use rather than vehicle access.

Inside, it provides bunks for up to 6 people, with a kitchen bench and sink, plus a multi-purpose walker’s platform. Use is free and no booking is required; it operates on a first-come, first-served basis.

Water is available via a rainwater tank. The area is on private land, and you need to stay on the clearly marked track and leave gates as you find them; wood fires are prohibited, so bring a lightweight camping stove.
