Bloomington Canyon Yurt
Bloomington Canyon Yurt is a winter backcountry yurt in Bloomington Canyon near Bear Lake, Idaho, operated by the Weber State University Outdoor Program. Access is by reservation and route finding/navigation skills are required; the official program also notes the yurt is intended for experienced winter backcountry travel (recommended minimum qualifications include avalanche level 1 and companion rescue).
The yurt sleeps up to 10 (group size is limited to 12). It’s set up with a wood-burning stove plus a propane stove for cooking, a kitchen setup with pots and pans (bring your own plates, bowls, cups, and utensils), and solar-powered lights with the reminder that reliability can drop with storm cycles and cloud cover. The facility includes a shallow pit toilet, and checkout time is 10:00 a.m.
Rates are $350 + tax per night, with a 30% discount for WSU students with an Active Wildcard and W#, and no discount for WSU faculty/staff (WSU affiliate must be present on the trip). The approach/trip is about 7.3 miles with roughly 1600 ft of vertical skin to the yurt from the trailhead, and parking is at the Bloomington Canyon trailhead near the water tower.
