Cabane de Fontchaude

Cabane de Fontchaude is a small, unstaffed mountain shelter used as a free stop for hikers on the GR7 in the Montagne Noire / Haut Languedoc area, east of Col de David in the Forêt de Montaud. It’s mainly a shelter for day breaks and emergency nights rather than a staffed refuge.

Inside, there are no sleeping places set up, but the cabin has large tables with benches and chairs, plus two fireplaces (chimneys). Wood is available nearby, and there’s a nearby water source in the form of the Ruisseau des Corbières about 150 m to the east; the cabin is open and frequently used by hunters.

For an overnight, plan to bring your own sleeping gear (there are no beds or mattresses). Expect a basic shelter: no stove is provided, and you should rely on the fireplace/chimney for heat and cooking needs.
