Charles King Memorial Hut
Charles King Memorial Hut is a backcountry bushwalkers’ shelter in the remote settlement of Melaleuca, in Southwest National Park. It’s managed by Parks and Wildlife Service Tasmania and serves hikers on the multi-day South Coast Track, with no advance booking and no reserving of beds—overnight use is first-come, first-served for suitable through-hikers.
The hut has wooden bunk beds and includes a dining table and food-prep area inside. A Tasmania Parks Pass is required for entry to national parks; the hut itself doesn’t charge an overnight fee. Fires are prohibited in the Melaleuca Fuel Stove Only area, so plan for a fuel-stove approach rather than burning solid fuels.
