Chickee Hut

Chickee Hut is a basic shelter type platform hut in the Everglades area, set up for backcountry overnight use. It’s an open-style platform shelter (bench and trash bin are present) meant for camping on designated chickee sites in the wilderness.

Overnight use is handled through Everglades wilderness permitting for chickee (elevated platform) camping. Permits cover overnight stays at designated wilderness sites, and the chickee platforms accommodate up to 6 people per platform; a portable toilet is provided on each chickee site. Campfires and wood/coal-fueled grills are not permitted at chickees, while gas stoves/grills are allowed.
