Christmas Village Hut
Christmas Village Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island/Rakiura. It’s a standard 12-bunk hut with no village at or near the hut, and it’s for overnight trips in the Stewart Island/Rakiura area.
Use is first come, first served—standard bookings aren’t required. To stay overnight, you buy a Standard Hut Ticket (adult blue, youth yellow) for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut; alternatively, a Backcountry Hut Pass covers unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for 12 months. Water at the hut is not treated, and it needs to be boiled before use (high rat numbers on Stewart Island/Rakiura increase the risk to tank water). The hut has mattresses, a fireplace, and pit latrine toilets.
