Cooper Lodge
Cooper Lodge is a Green Mountain Club backcountry shelter on the Long Trail near Killington, Vermont. It’s a stone-and-wood lodge with sleeping bunks and nearby tent platforms, with a privy on site.
Use is first-come, first-served—no reservations are accepted—and there is no longer a fee to stay at caretaker-staffed backcountry sites (donations are accepted to support maintenance). A roving GMC caretaker may be present to help with overnight management and ecosystem protection around Killington Peak.
The lodge provides bunks for about 12 people, with nearby wooden tent platforms for additional space; group stays are limited to 10 people including leaders. Plan to bring your own food, stove, and overnight gear, and carry water treatment because nearby sources aren’t guaranteed to be pure or reliable.
