Dun Shelter

Dun Shelter (also called Dun Hut or Dun Mountain Shelter) is a free, emergency backcountry shelter in Mount Richmond Forest Park, New Zealand. It’s intended for bad-weather refuge and short stays rather than a serviced hut experience.

Overnight use is first-come, first-served, with no bunks or mattresses provided, so plan to sleep on the floor or bring a small tent. There are no heating appliances; expect basic shelter, plus a long-drop toilet and a rainwater collection tank for water. Bring your own sleeping gear and a tent in case the shelter is occupied or not in good condition.
