Eden of Climbing
Eden of Climbing (El Edén de la Escalada), operated by German Huanca, is the backcountry base/refuge you use to access the sport-climbing crag El Edén in Estancia Churata near German Huanca’s property. It sits about 800 m from the entrance gate, and it’s used as a practical overnight base when you’re climbing in the area.
The approach to the climbing area from the base is short—about 10 minutes uphill—before you’re at the crag. Climbing in the El Edén area is centered on volcanic rock, with many established sport routes/problems in the lower-to-upper single-digit grade range, and the local area is between Potosí and Uyuni along Route 5 (get off at Puente San Juan).
Use of the hut/refuge is tied to advance coordination: reserving with German Huanca is part of the plan for legitimate access to the shelter. The route-area area has limited conveniences, so plan as a carry-in/carry-out trip and bring what you need for your stay.
