It’s used year-round, with summer access via Peter Lougheed Provincial Park and winter access via the Elk Pass winter trail route. The hut is operated by the Alpine Club of Canada and has a maximum capacity of 14. The hut provides a wood heat source (provided) plus propane lighting and propane stove/oven, and sleeps on mattresses; water is from a creek and there’s an outhouse bathroom.
Use is by booking (reservations are required). ACC members and non-members can book up to 180 days in advance; BC Provincial Parks huts have additional transaction fees and an extra non-resident fee if you live outside British Columbia. Pricing listed for bookings is $25 per night standard for both member and non-member, and $50 for the Family Rate (BC Parks Huts Only, “Must CALL to book”); the rate includes two adults and two children (17 and under). For the winter approach, seasonal highway #40 closure from Peter Lougheed Provincial Park to Highwood House Junction runs Dec 1–June 14, and a Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required when accessing from the Elk Pass trailhead.
