Route Details

Halfway Lodge is an off-grid backcountry lodge used as an overnight stop on guided horseback pack-trips in Banff National Park. It’s reached as part of multi-day routes that also include Sundance Lodge, with lodge nights at Halfway Lodge along the way.

On the 6-day Halfway Lodge horseback itinerary operated through Banff Trail Riders, Halfway Lodge is the night stay after a ride on the Erling Strom Trail from Sundance Lodge (about 9 miles south, roughly 5–6 hours including lunch). Meals are fully catered and include bedding; dietary requests are handled through set menus.

Halfway Lodge is a rustic cabin with propane lanterns/candles for light and a wood stove for warmth. The lodge sleeps a maximum of 14 guests across four rooms (single beds), with two shared outhouses and an outdoor shower on site.
