Kohukohunui Hut

Kohukohunui Hut is a small backcountry shelter in New Zealand’s Hunua Ranges area, used by trampers as a simple stopover when crossing the hills near Kohukohunui (often referred to as Trig K). Use is free and it’s designed for basic hut camping rather than full-service accommodation.

Facilities are basic: limited sleeping space, bunks/platforms for sleeping, and a cooking platform. Water is provided from a rain tank outside.

Plan on pack-in, pack-out use—bring everything you need and take all rubbish and food scraps with you. Open fires need extreme care, and it’s smart to limit fire impacts and follow the hut code (keep the hut clean, share space, and be considerate of other users).
