Mayo Hut
Mayo Hut is a backcountry hut used for Heysen Trail walkers and Mawson Trail cyclists, maintained by Friends of the Heysen Trail volunteers. It’s a walk-in site on private property that isn’t accessible by vehicle or caravan.
Use in the hut is free and no booking is required. Facilities include bunks, a fireplace, a table/seating area, and a toilet; there’s also a water tank, with the site reporting a live tank level for planning your intake. Mayo Hut is part of the Heysen Trail accommodation network, and it was restored from a ruin in 1988; it was originally a pioneer homestead built by William Mayo and family in 1899.
