Opaeula Cabin
Opaeula Cabin is an alpine backcountry cabin on Oʻahu (Poamoho Trail area) used as a waypoint for hikers traveling through the Koʻolau Summit Trail (KST) network. It’s located on state conservation land and accessed via land under U.S. Army jurisdiction, so it is not set up for general public civilian hut or camping permits; use is geared toward authorized military personnel, official trail work groups, and researchers.
For backcountry access in this area, hikers need an official recreation access permit for the Poamoho Trail, and the route requires a 4×4 vehicle to drive past the gate toward the Poamoho trailhead. Be ready for access constraints tied to permits and gate procedures, and plan around the possibility that conditions and legality can change.
