Red Dog Hut

Red Dog Hut is a rustic shelter on the Mathias Track in the Dandenong Ranges (Victoria). The hut is partially ruined, and it’s intended as a basic stop for warming and resting while you’re out on the track network around the R.J. Hamer Arboretum.

Use is free and it works on a first-come, first-served basis—there’s no advance booking. It’s a day-use spot, so you should plan to bring what you need for the walk; the hut area has no water tap, bins, or public toilets, and there are no public facilities right at the hut.

Fire restrictions apply in the area: campfires and open flames aren’t allowed. Dogs can use the nearby track network, but keep them on leash at all times.
