Refugio Piedra Madera Cobre

Refugio Piedra Madera Cobre is the backcountry hut operated by Universidad de Chile in the Lo Barnechea area. The site is also known as Refugio Farellones Universidad de Chile and is set up to support winter access to Farellones and El Colorado for skiing and other mountain activities.

The hut was built between 1932 and 1934 by student self-management on land donated by Ricardo Claro. It has about 1,200 m² of constructed area, with 2 living rooms, a dining area (casino), and accommodation for 120 people in multi-bed rooms with bunk beds.
