Route Details

Rutherford Emergency Shelter is a small A-frame emergency cabin on the Pemberton Ice-Cap area, maintained for backcountry travelers and sledders by the Pemberton Valley Snowmobile Club. It’s intended for daytime warming/safety use and is not set up as a booked overnight hut.

The shelter sits at treeline and is accessible from Highway 99 via the groomed Rutherford Valley Trail (about 22 km to the cabin). The cabin has a fireplace, and it’s not an end-to-end services facility: there’s no internet access and no toilets listed at the shelter.
