Saint Martin Lodge

Saint Martin Lodge is a backcountry lodge on Quarantine Island / Kamau Taurua, in the care of the QI/KT Community. The lodge is an expanded cottage with roots in the island’s former quarantine-keeper house, with the original four-room keeper’s house built in 1872 and later additions in the 1920s. Use on-island overnight accommodation is the primary purpose, with the lodge described as a basic, comfortable place to meet and stay.

The lodge is set up with composting toilets, replacing earlier plumbing that flushed into the sea. Ongoing on-site work highlighted for the lodge includes repairs and upgrades by volunteers, including resetting windows and adding insulation above the lounge and kitchen, plus additional insulation over other rooms. The lodge sleeps up to 26 people.
