Southfork Rustic Cabin

Southfork Rustic Cabin is a Michigan DNR backcountry-style cabin at Waterloo Recreation Area. The cabin sleeps up to 9 people and is set up for rustic stays: it has solar lighting and a wood stove, but no running water or electricity.

Plan on bringing your own bedding, pillows, towels, and cooking supplies. Water is limited; from May 1 to October 15 you can get potable water from a spigot about 700 feet away, and outside that window you’ll need to bring your own. Vault toilets are available nearby. Access is by about a quarter-mile hike from the staging/parking area, and reservations are required.

Typical rates are about $68 per night, booked through the Michigan DNR reservation system (or by calling 1-800-447-2757).
