Tin Can Camp

Tin Can Camp is a backcountry micro-cabin stay in Del Norte, Colorado, run by San Luis Valley Great Outdoors (SLV GO!) at the entrance to Penitente Canyon. The cabins are compact off-grid units with solar power and propane heat, and they’re set up as tiny bases for longer days exploring the San Luis Valley and nearby public lands.

Cabins are about 128 square feet and include a compact kitchenette with a sink, water jugs/pump setup, and loft sleeping spaces. You’ll need to bring your own drinking/cooking water—there’s no water on the property—and also bring bedding/sleeping bags and a flashlight. Each unit includes an incinerating toilet and guests use a fire ring, with wood-gathering not permitted (bring your own firewood).

At the road access point (County Road 41G near Penitente Canyon), expect off-highway conditions: arriving in daylight is strongly recommended and 4WD is often helpful for reaching the camp area. The camp is priced at about $80 per night, and bookings are handled through SLV GO! via their Tin Can Camp listing.
