Tunnel Creek Hut
Route Details
Tunnel Creek Hut is the Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club backcountry hut in the Lizard Range, in Tunnel Creek. The facility includes a light-weight modern quonset hut and outhouse that were flown to the foundations in December 2011, plus a post-and-beam day-use addition completed in autumn 2015 with a wood stove and kitchen; the sleeping area is the original quonset-style structure. In 2022, the original quonset bunk house was replaced with a larger structure to handle increased bookings and day use, adding features such as an enclosed wood shed, a trap-door wood entrance, new beds, new wood stove, new lighting, and kitchen counter and grey water sink; in summer 2024, the original quonset outhouse was replaced with a new structure.
Booking is handled through the hutβs online request/availability system, and the hut can be used for day use as well as overnight stays. The hut is a wilderness_hut facility (backcountry cabin) operated by the Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club.
