Waitakere Hut
Waitākere Hut is the Alpine Sports Club’s bush-base in the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park, reached from Anawhata Road via a short walk from a secure carpark (about 10 minutes). The hut sits in native forest and provides bunk space for around 20 people, with powered facilities and a full kitchen setup including a fridge, stove, and microwave.
Inside, you’ll find mattresses and pillows provided (bring your own sleeping bag and pillowcase), plus a cosy lounge with a wood burner. There’s also a basic solar shower, and the hut has been used for individual nature getaways, social functions, and as a base for tramping and youth group programmes. It was first established in 1929; the current hut was rebuilt by volunteers and is maintained on a volunteer basis.
For use, Alpine Sports Club membership is a booking benefit—book through the Waitākere Hut Officer, Mike Frith (phone +64 9 575 5383).
