Route Details

The Wendy Thompson Hut is an Alpine Club of Canada backcountry hut in the Marriott Basin backcountry (Whistler Section). It’s a reservations-only hut, and you must have a confirmed reservation to stay; payment is accepted through PayPal only, and you’ll need your PayPal receipt confirmation email as proof at the hut. Use is for groups sleeping in the hut’s two-floor layout: it sleeps up to 16 people plus 4 custodians, and each party’s size is limited to discourage full-hut bookings (full-hut exclusive bookings are restricted to academic institutions and educational programs).

Facilities include a wood stove for heat, a kitchen with cook stations and utensils for a full hut visit, and an outhouse accessed from the hut by a boardwalk; the outhouse uses urine-separating toilets completed in September 2019. Bring your own sleeping bag (there are covered foam mats on bunk beds), and plan on winter route-finding: the winter route is not marked, and the area is ATES Challenging terrain with Marriott Basin zoned non-mechanized. Fees are $25 per person per night, or $20 per night if you’re an ACC member of the Whistler, Squamish or Vancouver chapters; children 14 and under get a 20% discount. Dogs are no longer allowed. The winter approach notes that the orange-marked route is for summer hiking only, and that navigation in avalanche terrain is on you—use appropriate avalanche training and tools (compass/GPS and an area map), and consider a guide if your group doesn’t feel confident navigating under forecast conditions.
