Descent 2
Downhill left gully
plotted
Ascent 2
Short tour form the farm and bootpack.
plotted
Ascent
Straight up the hill along one of the gullies, then slowly start turning right towards the valley and the face of ,,The Horse’’. From the valley you can either hike up the north facing smaller face and then continue along the ridge and up the main face or skin up the right side of the main face all the way.
plotted
Descent
Open face with cruisy, west facing terrain at the top, then changing into a little bit steeper north facing. The 2nd lower part of the run needs some navigating through sometimes a rocky terrain, with often an inconsistent snow layer. Try to stay near one of the gullies.
plotted
Descent
Straight down the face, try to keep some elevation so you can ski all the way down to the saddle. From there, in the winter, it’s best to ski down along the gullies for the best snow, in the spring it doesn’t matter as much.
plotted
Ascent
From the road cross the bridge and hike towards the valley, stay more towards the right. Walk through the valley, pick the safest route up to the left ridge and then follow the ridge to the top.
plotted
Descent
Follow the same route up, try to keep elevation to make it back to the saddle. From there, in the winter, it’s best to ski down along the gullies for the best snow, in the spring it doesn’t matter as much. - it shares part of the same descent route as Snækollur.

plotted
Ascent
Skin along the road leading to Klængshóll (Arctic Heliskiing). From there, traverse diagonally, slowly gaining elevation aiming towards the valley with gully coming out of it. Stay on the left side of the gully. Walk through the valley and skin up the left side of the face in the far end of the valley.
plotted
Descent
Ski down more on the skiers right to avoid the terrain trap at the mid-bottom part of the mountain.
plotted
Ascent
From the road follow the creek (stay low). More mellow but longer approach takes you further across the glacier and then continue along the ridge to the top.
plotted
Ascent connector
From the road cross the bridge and hike towards the valley, stay more towards the right. (or cross the river if frozen over) Walk through the valley until you can cross the gully in the middle, cross glacier and bootpack up the couloir. - It partially shares the route with Snækollur.
plotted
Ascent-River crossing
The river is too deep to cross, needs to be frozen over.

plotted
Ascent
From the road skin up the left side of the gorge and continue behind the mountain into the valley towards the pass. Looking at the peak on your left, climb along the right hand side of the ridge.
plotted
Descent
Straight down the face and then follow the same way you came up.
plotted
Descent
Straight down the gully from the highest point of from the ridge.
plotted
Ascent
Head straight up towards the face and bootpack up the right side of the main gully. From the shoulder continue left to the top. Some scrambling around the cliffs can be expected.
plotted
Ascent
Follow the left side of the creek and navigate through the little valleys. Keep going straight towards the summit. Depending on snow, you can climb the last section along the left side ridge or cross over onto the right side ridge and then continue to the top.
plotted
Descent
Ski down right side of the top face and then follow roughly the same way you came up. Better to stay more on skiers right.
plotted
Ascent
Follow the left side of the river and then navigate through the valleys, gradually turning towards Rimar. Skin up on the left side of the face and continue to the top. Another option is to get onto the ridge via the route to the left peak Messuhnjúkur and then follow ridge to the top.
plotted
Descent 01
Straight down the face, towards the bottom start turning right so you won’t loose the speed as the terrain flattens out towards the river gully.
plotted
Descent 02
Couple of gullies to choose from. You will need to traverse back so try staying hight to maintain some elevation.
plotted
Ascent
Tour around from the left (south) side.
plotted
Ascent 3 (South)
Longer but mellow tour around
plotted
Ascent 2 (South)
This route follows right ridge
plotted
Ascent (South)
There are many ways to climb up Karlsáfjall. You can follow either side of the big gully’s ridge (may include some bootpack) or you can take longer but mellow tour around.
plotted
Descent 2 (South)
More mellow route
plotted
Descent (South)
Main gully route
plotted
Descent (East)

plotted
Ascent
Route follows right side of Karlsádalur valley and then up the south side of the mountain face.
plotted
Descent
More or less similar way down as you came up. At the bottom, stay high up to be able to ski all the way back.
plotted
Ascent
From the roadstay left of the river gully. Once the valley opens up cross to the right side and start skinning up the face.
plotted
Descent
More or less follow the same way you came up. At the last section ski down skier’s right side of the gully (often has the most amount of snow)
plotted
Ascent (North)
Head up towards the valley, stay left from the river running in the middle. Then turn left and continue up with the mountain on your right. Once you get to the bottom of the face, you can zig-zag your way up, expect a steeper skin track. From the ridge it’s a short way to the top.
plotted
Descent (North)
You can either drop from the top into the face (the top part is over 40°) or you can ski down to the shoulder and then drop into the face. Then I prefer to traverse more to the right to keep elevation and ski down the second gully from the mountain.
plotted
Descent
Straight down the gully. Narrower at the top, then in opens up towards the bottom. After that, stay on the right side of the valley all the way down to the car.
plotted
Ascent
From the road follow the left side of the gully. Once the valley opens up continue straight towards end of the valley. Bootpack up the gully or take alternative tour from the left side of the mountain.
plotted
Ascent
Go up the road and enter the valley from the right side. Further up you can decide to either skin up steeper midsection or go around it from the right (there might be cat-ski tracks). After a short traverse under the upper section, begin to climb towards the top.
plotted
Descent
Most often skied through the midsection of the skiers left side of the gully. But can be skied on either side, choose according to snow conditions.
plotted
Ascent (South)
Hike into the valley and start climbing up left the first section. After that the view opens up more and continue climbing up second steeper section which will take you up to the ridge. Follow the ridge to the top. Ridge gets exposed and quite steep towards the end, often icy.
plotted
Descent (South)
Steeper open face, narrowing down to (usually 1-2 passable gullies) and then opening up again towards the bottom. After you ski down the steep section, follow the same way down as you came up.
plotted
Ascent (East)
Straight up the hill from the car. When the valley opens up, stay on the left side and continue into the valley. Then turn righ into the valley towards the mountain and climb on the left side shoulder. Follow the ridge line to the top.
plotted
Descent (East)
Straight down the face. From the bottom of the run traverse a little bit left to maintain elevation and then ski down the valley crossing over to the right at the end before skiing the last section to the car.
plotted
Ascent
The easiest way up is to go past 3rd gully and then start climbing up towards the bowl. From there turn right and then follow the ridge to the top. You can also take the ridge before that - shorter but steeper way up.

plotted
Ascent (West)
Hike up into the valley and head towards the mountain. Then stick more to the right and skin up to the ridge in front of you. From there continue left up following the ridge to the top.

plotted
Ascent (East)
Route follows ski area. Use the lift or skin up to the top lift. From there continue right along the ridge towards to peak.

plotted
Ascent
Hop over the gate near the parking lot and skin straight up the slope. If you want to bootpack the couloir, you will need to go around from the left side of the mountain.
plotted
Descent
The top part is the steepest and narrowest, then it opens up towards the bottom.
plotted
Ascent
Hike up into the valley and then start climbing up left towards the top. After you get up the first section continue hiking left towards the summit.
plotted
Descent
Ski down the main face and then ski down along one of the gullies which is where the good snow usually is. From the bottom you may be able to glide back to the road if the snow isn’t deep. Depending on the snow you can also start traversing back higher up to ski all the way to the road.
plotted
Ascent (East)
Alternative route up.
plotted
Descent
Straight down. Beware of cliffs at the SW part.
plotted
Ascent
Ski tour from the tunnel and then bootpack up.
plotted
Ascent
From the road skin up along one of the gullies next to the tiny forest, continue up towards the pass and from there follow the ridge up to the top.
plotted
Descent
Down the ridge and then more towards skiers right. After the first part ski down along one of the gullies down to the road.
plotted
Ascent
From the road into the valley and then to the top from the left side. 2nd option is to skin up a valley north of this one. It is a little better for touring but you will have to skin back to the car.
plotted
Descent
Typical route down is dropping into the middle V shape section, but there’s also a steeper narrower shoot between the cliffs before that. More options further along the ridge, but they’re not always easy to get to.
plotted
Descent 2
Narrower shoot from the top.
plotted
Ascent 2

plotted
Ascent
There any many ways to reach the summit and there’s no wrong way to go about it. Basically start hiking up from the road (wherever you can find parking place) until you see the summit and head towards that. You might come across cat ski tracks which you can follow to the summit.
plotted
Descent
As with the way up, route down on Kaldbakur is very flexible as the terrain is very wide and mellow. Look for the best snow, fun features and have fun.
plotted
Ascent
Skin up or take lift to the top and then 15min tour to the summit.
plotted
Descent (Manshryggur)
Open E-facing run. Get to the top of ski area and hike up across towards the peak. From there you can ski down and connect back to the lift at the bottom.
plotted

plotted
Descent (Blátindur)

plotted
Ascent
From the farm head towards the peak up and up to the saddle. From there you walk below the north facing lines and bootpack up. Note that the area around the N face is a glacier.
plotted
Descent
2 ridable gullies. One shorter and more mellow, the other one longer, narrower and steeper. There might be more options, depending on the conditions and how the terrain is filled.
plotted
Ascent
Skin from the road and bootpack the rest.
plotted
Descent
There’re the main couloir with a secondary one branching to the side.
plotted
Ascent
Shares the same route as 16) - Go up the road and enter the valley from the right side. Further up you can decide to either skin up steeper midsection or go around it from the right (there might be cat-ski tracks). After a short traverse under the upper section, begin to climb towards the top.
plotted
Decent 1
There’re two couloirs, one (1) is longer and ends past the tunnel (with a cliff!), the other one (2) starts wide and then narrows down, ending right above the tunnel.
plotted
Descent 2
There’re two couloirs, one (1) is longer and ends past the tunnel (with a cliff!), the other one (2) starts wide and then narrows down, ending right above the tunnel.
plotted
Ascent + Descent
Notes - same way up and down. Often tricky conditions, lack of snow.
