Abri de la Pierre à l'Ours
Abri de la Pierre à l'Ours is a small, unmanaged emergency shelter (cabane non gardée) in the Aiguilles Rouges / Massif du Giffre area. It has a single tiny room with a wooden table, two benches, and a stove, and it’s used as a last-resort weather refuge or winter backup when nearby staffed refuges are closed.
The shelter is basic: there’s no running water, electricity, or firewood provided, so you’ll need to bring your own sleeping setup and supplies. The name varies in the area (also seen as L'abri à Tintin or L'abri du Couvercle). Access is from the Col d'Anterne approach: about 30 minutes from the Refuge du même nom, or about 2h30 from Servoz and around 1h from the Châtelet.
Inside, there are indications for roughly one sleeping place (a single mat space), plus a stove; there’s no latrine. Access and visibility in winter can be difficult because the door opens outward and snow can bury the entrance, so plan for that if you’re going in during the cold season.
