Cabane de l'Aspre

Cabane de l'Aspre is a free-use, unstaffed backcountry refuge (cabane non gardée) in the Mercantour area at 2471 m. It’s meant for emergency-style overnight stops on a first-come, first-served basis, with communal sleeping space rather than dedicated beds.

The shelter is small, with capacity for about 6 people. Inside you’ll find a table, benches, and a wooden sleeping platform; there’s no drinking water, no toilets, and no heating or fireplace—plan to carry your sleeping gear and all food, and leave the hut clean for the next users.

Access is not restricted by staff services (no reservation system), but the location can be hazardous in winter: take particular care because the area is very avalanche-prone during winter.
