Eastern Hutt Hut

Eastern Hutt Hut is a backcountry emergency/day-use shelter in the Hutt Water Collection Area, operated by Greater Wellington Regional Council. Access is limited by water-catchment rules: you can use the hut for a lunch stop or emergency shelter, but overnight stays for leisure are prohibited and the hut is not set up for recreational overnight use.

Because the hut sits within a drinking-water catchment, trips must be completed in a single day through the catchment (day use only). Use requires strict hygiene and impact control in the water system: keep rivers and streams clean, bury toilet waste well away from watercourses, and don’t light fires; plan to carry what you need for wet weather and cold conditions, and avoid attempting any flooded stream crossings.
