Island Junction Shelter

Island Junction Shelter is a basic warming shelter reached from Ray Benson Sno-Park via the Island Lake Trail. It’s intended for daytime shelter use, and it’s on the Deschutes National Forest with no sanitation facilities provided.

Use is free and it can’t be reserved—overnight camping inside the shelter isn’t permitted. The shelter must be shared with other recreationists, and you’re expected to pack out all garbage and human waste where facilities aren’t available.

Plan winter access around Sno-Park requirements: permits are required from November 1 through April 30. Winter access is from the Ray Benson Sno-Park area at Santiam Pass, and an approach on skis or snowshoes from the sno-park is about 7 miles round trip.
