North Blowout Shelter
North Blowout Shelter is a backcountry warming shelter on the Deschutes National Forest side of Santiam Pass winter trail systems. It’s accessible from trails off Ray Benson Sno-Park and is intended for day-use and emergency warming rather than exclusive overnight use.
Usage is first-come, first-served in a shared shelter. It is free to visit, but you generally need an Oregon Sno-Park permit to park at the trailhead from November 1 through April 30. Overnight use is generally not supported for this shelter, and there are no sanitation facilities—pack out all garbage and human waste if there’s no restroom. Candles aren’t allowed, and you should bring your own lights.
