John Coull Hut
John Coull Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Whanganui National Park on the Whanganui Journey. It’s a 24-bunk hut, with great-walks-season demand handled via online Great Walk bookings, and a different approach outside that season when availability is first come, first served and the facilities are reduced.
Facilities include an untreated water supply (tap water needs boiling/filtering or treatment), a kitchen area, mattresses, and toilets with pit-latrine disposal. A fireplace is provided. Pricing varies by season: NZ visitors pay per person per night, and international visitors are charged at an international rate; Great Walk Passes and Backcountry Hut Passes are time-limited (Backcountry Hut Passes work only from 1 May to 30 September), while Great Walk season bookings apply from 1 October to 30 April.
