Omaru Hut

Omaru Hut is a serviced eight-bunk backcountry hut operated by the Department of Conservation, located in Whanganui National Park. It’s set up for overnight use with first-come, first-served access and no bookings required for stays there.

The hut provides a mattress and a fireplace, with drinking water available as untreated water and toilets as a pit latrine. Fees apply for the overnight stay: adults $25 per night (18+), children/youth $12.50 per night (ages 5–17), and infants (0–4) are free; for each night, you buy a Serviced Hut Ticket and place it in the honesty box at the hut (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass at most serviced and standard huts for unlimited use over 12 months).
