Refuge de la Valmasque
Refuge de la Valmasque is a FFCAM backcountry hut in the Mercantour National Park, above Lac Vert near the Vallon de la Valmasque in the commune of Tende (Mercantour-Argentera). It’s staffed in summer and used as a base for hiking in the high alpine lakes area and routes around Mont Clapier.
The hut sits at 2,233 m and has 52 sleeping places in the staffed season, with two dormitories. During the period without the guardian, it provides a winter-room style option with 9 sleeping places (one dormitory), with a wood stove and basic items (covers, dishes, lighting) but no gas or water. Reservations are made online, and the stay period with the guardian runs from early June to late September (for the 2026 season: 6 June to 28 September, with the refuge opening and being kept during that window).
