Refuge du Grand Tétras

Refuge du Grand Tétras is a hikers’ stopover and group gîte in Wangenbourg-Engenthal, in the Vosges forest massif around the Mossig valley. The hut sits on the trans-Vosges walking routes GR 53, GR 531, GR 532, and GR 534, making it a practical base for multi-day treks through the Schneeberg–Donon area.

Inside, it offers a ground-floor common room with a kitchen area and upstairs accommodation in one dormitory with 15 bunk beds (15 places total). Sanitary facilities include hot-water showers, washbasins, and toilets; there is wood heating (wood stove). The common space includes cookware/utensils for a group, and guests can use the on-site documentation/resources kept for visitors. The refuge also has a small outdoor/yard setup and is positioned by the Mossig stream corridor.

Operationally, it’s run as a gîte d’étape with group reception. It is served on the GR network and is also used by cyclists and other itinerant travellers; meal service includes breakfast and a catered dinner option when arranged with the hosts. On-site laundry/streaming-style amenities such as spa, pool, and restaurant service are not provided; there is parking and a closed bicycle garage plus tools for basic bike maintenance.
