Refugio Glaciar Echaurren

Refugio Glaciar Echaurren is a backcountry alpine hut in the upper Yeso River basin near San José de Maipo. It was built in 1975 by the Dirección General de Aguas (DGA) to support long-term glacier monitoring work in the Echaurren area.

The hut’s main role is research support: it helps enable uninterrupted measurements connected to the Glaciar Echaurren Norte reference glacier. The setting is tied to glacier mass-balance fieldwork carried out at high altitude, with the surrounding Echaurren–Laguna Negra area functioning as a scientific focus zone.
