Refugio Huellas de Amistad

Refugio Huellas de Amistad is a backcountry hut run by Estancia Cerro Áspero in the Sierras de la Ventana area (Abra del Hinojo). It operates under a rustic, self-managed mountain-hut setup, with communal use typical of quieter shared-stay weekends.

The hut is set up for overnighting with space for up to 20 sleeping mats, plus gas cooking and a wood stove. A fire-based cooking area is also present outside, and there’s an outdoor chemical toilet on site. Bring your own food, water, and sleeping bag; other toiletries and full bathing facilities are not provided at the hut.

After paying for an overnight, you can use the bathrooms and showers located at the estancia at the lower part of the property, roughly a 50-minute walk from the refuge. It’s generally presented as a year-round destination, with winter conditions often cold enough that the wood stove becomes essential and nights can be below freezing.
