Refugio Las Rockas 5200m

Refugio Las Rockas 5200m is a high-altitude backcountry hut in Bolivia’s Cordillera Real, used as a high camp for Huayna Potosí climbs. It sits around 5,200 m and is typically part of a multi-day push that includes acclimatization in the La Paz area before sleeping at this elevation.

Approach to the refuge is usually done from the Huayna Potosí base area, with a hike up the moraine of roughly 2–3 hours to reach the hut for the night. Because it’s at extreme altitude, climbers generally plan time to adjust before attempting to sleep or climb from the 5,200 m level. Nearby, teams use the hut as a staging point for glacier travel and an early-morning summit attempt.
