Wildlife Hut

Wildlife Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut in Pureora Forest Park (Waitomo/Pureora area), run by the Department of Conservation. Bookings aren’t required; it operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and there’s no charge to use it.

Inside, there are mattresses and a fireplace. The hut also has toilets with pit-latrine disposal. Access is via Otewa Road from Otorohanga; continue to Waimahora Road, turn onto Owawenga Road, then follow a short walk from the road edge to the hut. There are no formed walking tracks nearby, but hunters’ tracks are present.
