Window Rock Cabin
Window Rock Cabin is a US Forest Service rental cabin in Hyalite Canyon on the Bozeman District of Custer Gallatin National Forest, built in 1940. It sleeps 4 people and stays are booked for up to 4 people (with a loft) at a rate of $30 per night; reservations are released 6 months in advance.
The cabin is a rustic setup with twin beds, a wood-burning stove for cooking and heat, and an outdoor campfire ring. There’s an outhouse with an accessible vault toilet, but no water or electricity provided—bring your own water supply and expect to pack out trash; firewood can be difficult to obtain in winter. For overnight use, Hyalite Canyon Road has seasonal closures to motorized vehicles: the road to the cabin closes to motorized traffic every spring (March 31–May 15), and winter access depends on conditions with the final approach described as requiring ski, snowshoe, or other winter travel when the road isn’t plowed.
