West Main Buttress

Loading map…

West Main Buttress is a major wall in the Eldred Valley climbing area near Powell River, British Columbia. The buttress rises approximately 500 m and now includes several climbing areas, including the Y.S.F. Wall and Cougar Den.

Its first route, Against the Current, was established by Brent Goodman and Matt Hodgson in 2013 or 2014. The line climbs 13 pitches over roughly 500 m and is graded V 5.11+ C1. The route begins with lower-angle slab climbing before reaching the headwall.

The West Main Buttress Trail provides access toward the base of the wall and continues up its right side. The approach was developed through Eldred Valley trail work and is included among the area's rock-climbing access trails.

Additional development includes Unprotected Sex on the Y.S.F. Wall, a 5.11- sport climb protected by seven bolts.
