West Main Wall
West Main Wall is a granite big wall in British Columbia’s Eldred Valley near Powell River, rising approximately 525 metres. The area is geared primarily toward aid climbing, with three documented objectives: Mainline, Call of the Granite, and the Mad Buggers Wall Project.
Mainline is an 18-pitch route graded 5.11/A4+ VI; Call of the Granite is listed at 5.12/A1 VI. Mainline’s first ascent was completed by Colin Dionne and Rob Richards in 1993, and the route was climbed capsule-style over seven days with only 18 bolts.
The approach begins on the west side of the Eldred River and takes about an hour after a cable crossing. Access uses active logging roads: weekday travel is restricted to before 5:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m., while weekends and statutory holidays have 24-hour access. The descent returns toward an active road, so vehicle placement requires care; mountain bikes are suggested for the road exit.
