Abri de l'arbre de la Liberté

Abri de l'arbre de la Liberté is a small, unmanaged backcountry shelter in the Vosges maintained by the Club Vosgien. It’s a simple stop on the GR, with limited overnight space intended more for a brief shelter than for a staffed refuge.

Sleeping is on the order of 3 places upstairs, plus 1 place on the table at ground level. Use is free and no advance reservation is required, but it runs on an honor system: tidy up, take all trash with you, and leave the shelter as you found it.

Plan on very basic conditions: there’s no running water and no electricity. It’s not designed for cooking/heating—there’s no fireplace/stove—and the shelter can have noticeable drafts, especially in upper sleeping areas.

You can reach it on foot from the Col des Bagenelles, Col Sainte-Marie, or Côte d’Echery via marked trails.
