Abri du glacier de Chavière
Abri du glacier de Chavière is an unguarded emergency shelter in the Vanoise National Park area, used for emergency/ranger needs rather than public leisure stays. It sits at about 3041 m in the glacier de Chavière sector and is reached from either the col de Thorens or the lacs de Chavière.
Expect very basic refuge conditions: covers are not provided, and the shelter has no on-site potable water and no toilets or fireplaces/heating features. Capacity is extremely limited, and use is strictly reserved for park needs; when it is closed to the public, it’s not a place to plan an overnight as a normal hut stop.
The protected-area rules are strict: dogs are not allowed (even on leash), fires and camping are prohibited, and you must stay off marked routes restrictions (including no collecting stones/crystals and no depositing waste). For overnight options during hikes/ski touring in the area, plan around staffed, reservable huts instead of this shelter.
