Abri du lac de la Maix

Abri du lac de la Maix is a non-guarded backcountry shelter (cabane non gardée) by Lac de la Maix in the Vosges. It’s set up as an open-sided shelter with an overhang, benches, and a water point nearby on the southwest side of the lake.

Use is free and there’s no booking or reservation process—plan on first-come, first-served use and be ready to share space if others arrive for the same lakeside stop. It sits about 50 m below the lake, with a small practical base for a short rest around the shore.

Getting there is commonly done by parking at Vexaincourt and hiking in. During the summer access restriction, the forest road to the lake is closed to motorized vehicles from June 15 to September 15, while the area remains reachable on foot or by bicycle.
