Ancien Refuge du Sélé Refuge d'Hiver
Ancien Refuge du Sélé Refuge d'Hiver is a winter refuge at 2626 m in the Ecrins National Park (core), used as a non-guarded shelter rather than a staffed hut. It sleeps on mattresses and is set up with bunks/couchettes, a table, and benches, with covers provided; there is no other equipment such as heating, running water, or a stove/fireplace. The refuge is locked, so plan to rely on your own means and be ready for cold conditions.
Access is from Ailefroide: the first part follows the same route used for Refuge du Pelvoux up to the bifurcation at 1993 m, then continues along the Celse-Nière torrent (left bank) before finishing via a small path to the wooden cabin terrace near the newer refuge. Count about 4h30 from Ailefroide, and note that it serves as a base for classics in the Sélé basin such as Ailefroides, Pic-sans-Nom, Boeufs Rouges, and Pte du Sélé.
