Arete Forks Hut

Arete Forks Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Tararua Forest Park (Wairarapa region). It’s run by the Department of Conservation and works on a first come, first served basis—no bookings are required, but you need a Standard Hut Ticket (in the honesty box) for each night you stay (adult $10 per night; youth 5–17 $5 per night; children/infants 0–4 free).

Use is from Kiriwhakapapa roadend via Blue Range and Cow Creek huts; nearby hut options listed for planning include Cow Creek Hut (about 4–5 hr), Tarn Ridge Hut (about 5 hr), and Arete Hut (about 3 hr). The hut has bedding (mattresses), a fireplace, and toilet facilities with pit latrine disposal; drinking water is not provided.
