Baraque des Bachassons

Baraque des Bachassons is a free, unmanaged wilderness hut in the Vercors high plateaux area, used as an emergency shelter for multi-day backcountry walkers. Use is first-come, first-served with no advance booking.

It sits at about 1,300 m and provides basic sleeping capacity for roughly 4 people (in a mezzanine area). Inside, you’ll find simple furnishings (a table and benches) and a fireplace; wood is brought in annually. There’s no water supply at the hut, so carry what you need.

If you’re camping around the hut in the protected Hauts Plateaux du Vercors area, bivouac time limits apply: camping is only allowed between 17:00 and 09:00 (and after dark you should plan to set up near huts/GR where allowed). Pack for cold night conditions and bring your own bivouac/tent gear since the hut is not reserved.
