Bench Hut
Bench Hut is a backcountry alpine hut in the Sawtooth Mountains, run through Sun Valley Mountain Huts for downhill skiing and snowboarding. It sits at about 7,400 ft on the shoulder of Mount Heyburn and is reached via a gentle ridge approach from the Redfish Lake trailhead—about 5 miles total with about 1,200 ft of gradual elevation gain.
The hut sleeps up to 8 guests and is equipped with two wood stoves, a three-burner propane stove for cooking, kitchenware, bunks with foam mattresses, and a wood-fired sauna. Guests are expected to bring food, personal equipment, and sleeping bags; for a first-time visit, at least one group member must already be familiar with the route, access, and correct hut operations, and an on-site Hut Rent Orientation ($400) is required on Day One. Hut rates for the 2025 season start at $480/night for up to eight guests ($60 for each additional person), with additional children (ages 6–12) listed at $25/night.
