Blue Lake Hut

Blue Lake Hut is a serviced Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Nelson Lakes National Park (Nelson/Tasman region), set up for overnight stays in the Nelson Lakes area. It provides 16 bunk beds, has a pit latrine, and is supported by a drinking-water supply that is untreated—plan to filter or treat before drinking. There’s a fireplace at the hut, and mattresses are provided.

Reservations and access are booking-based: serviced stays require bookings, and for visitors arriving without a booking the hut does not hold spaces. Hut tickets or a Backcountry Hut Pass (valid 1 May to 30 September) are required—adult is $25 per night (youth 5–17: $12.50; children 0–4 free) up to 30 June 2026, with updated rates applying from 1 July 2026; camping at the hut also uses hut tickets or passes (adult $10 per night; youth $5; children 0–4 free). No firewood is supplied from May to September, so you need to gather dead wood from surrounding forests and avoid breaking branches off live trees.
