Burn Creek Hut

Burn Creek Hut is a basic DOC 2-bunk hut in Nelson Lakes National Park (Nelson/Tasman). Use is free and there’s no booking—bunks are first come, first served. It’s a backcountry hut with no DOC track access, so you’ll need to plan your approach and navigate with map, compass, and GPS. Typical use includes overnighting while moving through Nelson Lakes’ backcountry.

The hut has 2 bunks and includes mattresses, with a fireplace provided. Drinkable water is not provided, and toilets are not provided—plan to carry your water and your own waste solution. The hut is at about 1,260 m elevation; if you’re heading in around river crossings, expect to route around or wait for safe conditions and avoid crossing unbridged rivers/side streams when entry/exit points aren’t clear or flows are high.
