Cabane d Aouet

Cabane d'Aouet is a free, open shepherd’s hut in the French Pyrenees area above Bagnères-de-Bigorre, used for overnight stays on a first-come, first-served basis. It’s unstaffed and the hut door is kept closed with a stone, so you’re essentially relying on the shelter itself rather than services or staff support.

The hut sits around 1,730–1,740 m and sleeps up to 4 people on a shared wooden sleeping platform (bat-flanc). It has a fireplace and a water point from an abreuvoir below the hut; bring your own food and sleeping gear, and plan on very rustic conditions consistent with an unsupervised shelter.

Water and heat are the main practical targets: use the nearby water source below the hut, and expect only limited wood supply (a few logs). the hut is suitable for overnight use, including winter use, with the same basic sleeping capacity.
